Happy Monday! (Really, who’s happy about it?)
I’ve totally lost my inspiration and momentum the last few days. I don’t know where it went. Maybe I just need to write something, anything, and the spark will come back.
So how about movie reviews?
This weekend we made it out to see X-Men: First Class. It was GOOD. I’m glad they weren’t playing it in 3D here so we didn’t have to have that dreadful conversation about whether we would spend the extra dollars to see it in 3D. It might have been enhanced a little by 3D effects, but I didn’t really feel like I missed out. I really enjoy stories like this that delve into the history and development of already well-known characters. It was great back story for Magneto and Professor X. I thought both Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy were fresh and their performances solid, but Michael (Magneto) stole the show just a bit. I was gripped by his character development and his motivations for becoming the bad guy.
We also watched True Grit together this week. I know this is a highly acclaimed movie, and I enjoyed it, but it didn’t put me over the moon. I could tell Don was relating to it more than me. He had a goofy grin on his face for most of the movie.
I watched The King’s Speech this week. I was glad Don was not home to complain about it because I enjoyed it. It was slower and more dramatic than the types of movies we usually watch but I really enjoyed the story. I was fascinated by Geoffrey Rush. Seeing him in another role, so drastically different from Captain Barbossa (Pirates), was refreshing and fun.
I also picked up No Strings Attached on another night that Don was on duty. I could have done without it. It was okay as chick flicks go but I was not very impressed. I just didn’t get absorbed by the story or the characters.
Hmm, maybe I’ll make Mondays my day to share thoughts on movies from the previous week.
It could work.
