Next Wednesday is my birthday.
Eh. I’m not sure how I feel about this.
I’m going to be 34 so I can still technically claim “early thirties” for one more year. I think.
Don likes to tease me relentlessly about my age and he’s been hassling me for months that I’m going to be 34. I just keep telling him at least I’ll never catch him. 🙂
Generally speaking, I really enjoy birthdays regardless of the whole getting older thing. I love having an excuse to get together with people and just enjoy some time together.
I miss the backyard BBQs and other get-togethers with friends and family back home and wish my birthday was an opportunity for us all to be together. Sadly, we are 2,500 miles away and that just isn’t going to be.
So I’m not sure how I feel about my birthday next week. I would normally be excited about it as a time for camaraderie and good times but it is likely that it will probably be another quiet day in our everyday lives. We will both be working and we don’t have anything special planned. We’ve already indulged our fancies overmuch in the past month or two anyway. I wouldn’t feel good about doing anything extravagant just to try to make the day more interesting. We’ll get me some cake and that’ll do. (I do get pretty excited about cake.)
On the upside, I am looking forward to finally getting my hands on my new digital SLR. I am super excited about getting to play with it and all the fun things I will be able to share with it.
A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip.
