Out with the Old, In with the New

For Christmas our joint gift to each other (besides the trip to New Orleans) was a new set of dishes. Yay! (It’s the little things that excite me.)

(Olli wishes you a ‘Happy New Year’ btw.)

Our old dishes had a good run. We’ve had them for close to the ten years we’ve been married. As you can see, some are chipped and we’ve outgrown the colors and design.

I’ve been lusting after white dishes since starting this blog and developing my interest in food photography. I am over the moon excited about finally having them!

I’m looking forward to sharing new recipes and kitchen experiments with our new dishware. There will probably be a few more posts after this that still feature the old dishes, recipes I’ve tried in the past two weeks but haven’t had a chance to post yet. But I am eager for the first new post on the white.

The set came with two serving bowls and I’ve been waiting anxiously all month to be able to use one as a fruit bowl on the island. Yay for black and white contrasts. 🙂

In the spirit of out with the old, in with the new, we cleaned out our closets and cupboards and made two trips to the Goodwill in the past week. It feels great to unload old things and to know that someone else may be able to enjoy things that don’t fit us anymore or that are cluttering up our cupboards but that are still in fair or good condition. Our old dishes may have been “tired” to us, but they have a lot of life left in them and they might light up someone else’s kitchen with new color and flair.

The secret to living the life of your dreams is to start living the life of your dreams today, in every little way you possibly can.
