Reading Corner – The Jewel of St. Petersburg

The Jewel of St. Petersburg by Kate Furnivall is OUTSTANDING. I couldn’t put it down and read it in 4 days. I picked it up on a random whim at the library not knowing what to expect but it was clearly historical fiction so I thought I’d give it a whirl. The heart of the story is romance but it is set against the stormy backdrop of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in the early 1900’s and there’s lots of other action and intrigue. The main character is a headstrong young girl who refuses to be controlled by culture and her parents and she’s just my kind of heroine. As it turns out, the book is a prequel to another story written a few years earlier called The Russian Concubine, which I will have to pick up and read sometime soon. Historical fictions fans will love this story.

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.
