Machine Gun Preacher is based on a true story of a biker strung out on a life of drugs and crime who becomes a born again Christian. In his new life, he becomes a crusader for children in Sudan, beginning during the Second Sudanese War in 1998. It’s not a light story but it’s good. Sam Childers still fights for the children in Sudan today. His orphanage houses over 200 children and has helped many, many more over the years. If you are interested in giving to his cause you can read more about it here. Childers has also written a biography, Another Man’s War.
On a lighter note, The Watch is a goofy comedy about 4 guys who form a neighborhood watch after a local citizen is killed. By an alien. Of course they don’t know that right away. Sorry for the spoiler. Although if you’ve seen any previews you probably already know there are aliens. There’s not a lot to say about it. It was silly. Not very believable in many ways. But not completely horrible. Some good lines here and there. Typical Ben Stiller comedy in my book.
Bob: [about his massage chair] That is the best 2300 bucks I ever spent. I got it at a place called relaxtheback.com. It’s like Toys-R-Us for your ass and back.
