I had grand designs to post this over the weekend so it would be more timely. So much for that idea! LOL
I took close to 500 photos and ended up with about 90 that were worth keeping. Through happy accident, some of the less focused photos are still quite interesting I think. I hope you enjoy these displays of fire and light that I’ve selected to share. Thanks again to friends who invited me over to dinner and to share their holiday with me.

Milo likes the oddest places. He definitely prefers perching on top of things if he can. He had, a few week ago, found a new spot on top of the new gun safe we bought, but Olli quickly found his hiding place (thanks to a little help from Don) and ruined it. Since then we’ve re-taken the area for storage and it’s hasn’t worked out to Milo’s liking for perching, so he’s had to search for other spots to lord over his humans. The printer seems to suit him quite well. Much to our dismay. Thankfully, he doesn’t make his bed here often.
Yes, you may worship the paw. Kiss the paw. But don’t touch me.
Here’s my good side. Did you get it?

Olli is always doing the cutest things when we play but I can never get photos while my hands are busy dragging the toys around for him to chase. Finally I had an opportunity recently to ask Don to snap some shots while Olli and I played. It was a little hard whittling down the 100+ photos Don took in the span of five or ten minutes, but he got some good shots.
That’s play cube version 3 by the way.
Both cats love to hide inside the box and reach out for the toys or attack right through the thin fabric as well. I’m sure they can see through the fabric a bit and they feel like they are hiding from their prey.
Even though it’s not a crisp shot, I still love that tongue sticking out and the expression in his eyes.
Taking a break; pretending his not interested for a moment.
And we’re off again!
Such a goof.
Time spent with a cat is never wasted.

Afternoon catnaps are the best.
Anyone want to guess, which is Olli and which is Milo?
Happiness is like a cat sleeping on your lap. You can’t force it to come to you and you can’t force it to stay with you.

We went hiking at Sam Houston State Park last weekend. I’m still a bit sore from the 6 mile walk. I was wearing my minimalist New Balance shoes (best used for walking or running on pavement) and I had to do a lot of tip-toeing around mud puddles, roots, and other things. Don even had to piggy-back me twice over areas that were too wet or muddy. (He has a pair of sturdy hiking boots; guess we need to get me some too.)
At first I didn’t see much to photograph but Don’s eagle eyes caught a bit of color on the ground and soon we were on the lookout for these beauties.
We have no idea what type of mushrooms they are and part of the reason for photographing them was so that we could try to identify them. (Haven’t quite taken the time yet, lol.) But the photos, just for the sake of photos, are fun too.
Don saw this little guy suspended in the middle of the trail. How? I have no idea. I’m sure I would have walked right on by.
We left him to inch his way along on a nearby leaf.
The deer are incredibly tame at Sam Houston. In fact, the people in the parking lot were feeding them from their vehicle to keep them close. We managed to get in our car, start it, and pull away without much notice or care from the deer.
