I enjoyed Death Masks, as I enjoy all the Dresden Files. After reading 5 in pretty close succession though, they are starting to feel formulaic and it wears on me that Butcher re-introduces the characters to the reader in every book. It’s a good tactic for making the stories and characters accessible to new readers every time, in case someone picks up a single volume from the series. Each book could easily stand alone because of this. But reading the books so closely to one another, it tends to have the opposite effect for me so I think I might take a break for a bit before picking up book 6. Although, regardless of all that, I really liked the plot of this particular installment. Harry’s love interest comes back on the scene and she’s turned into a real bad-ass. So it was a fun, quick read. I look forward to seeing where the story goes in the next installment.
Keep reading. It’s one of the most marvelous adventures that anyone can have.
